The Tenants' Union of Tasmania is seeking a Solicitor and Senior Solicitor to support the delivery of specialist tenancy law services throughout Northern Tasmania. Reporting to the Principal Solicitor, you will provide legal advice, advocacy, and representation to tenants while contributing to access-to-justice outcomes.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice, referrals and casework support in residential tenancy matters.
- Assist tenants to resolve disputes relating to evictions, repairs, compensation claims and rental bonds.
- Represent and assist clients before TASCAT, courts and other tribunals.
- Undertake legal research and policy analysis to support advocacy and law reform initiatives.
- Develop tenancy law resources, publications and community education materials.
Bring Your Legal Skills, We'll Help You Build the Rest
- Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia and eligible for a Tasmanian practising certificate.
- Minimum of two years of post-admission experience, ideally (graduates and early-career lawyers welcome).
- Strong legal foundations, advocacy skills and a willingness to learn.
- Experience in legal advocacy, litigation, dispute resolution or working directly with complex clients.
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence.
